Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. (Psalm 51: 10 ESV)
Today’s Encouragement
Do you pay attention to your heart? I’m not talking about the physical condition of your heart but the spiritual condition. After David came face to face with the sin in his own heart, he cried out to God because he knew he was unable to clean his own heart. He realized the spiritual condition of a man’s heart can only be fixed by God alone.
We are powerless to change the nature of our own hearts. If we choose, like David, to ask God to address the condition of our hearts, we need to be prepared for what God’s response might require of us. He may ask us to part with a piece of ourselves we feel intimately connected to. He may ask us to apologize or confess sin.
Though it may be difficult, we can rest in the truth that God’s extravagant love will remain constant. In love, He prunes our hearts: eliminating those things that hinder our growth. Gently He persistently prompts us to release the sin we’ve accumulated. Because He created us, we can trust that He will create in us a pure heart if we ask.
Prayer
Dear God, Show me where my heart is not pure before You. Give me the courage to consistently come to You regarding the spiritual condition of my heart. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray. Amen.
Reflection
How is the spiritual condition of your heart?
